Working with disaster preppers has been a pretty eye opening experience overall, and I was surprised that there has actually been a fairly large number of folks in the Montreal Quebec Canada area that feel so strongly about disaster preparedness. But even though my specialty is in structural engineering for non-traditional constructs, I have really appreciated having my furnished suite in Montreal with the folks at Gesthab to enjoy during these commissions.
I never really meant to build a reputation for myself in the disaster prep realm. In fact, I didn’t know anything about it at all really before a friend of mine introduced me to another friend who was in the process of rewiring her garage for some advanced security and lighting grid systems.
This friend that I was introduced to was kind of like a gateway into this alternative culture because she commissioned me to build a small unit for food storage after I told her about my construction background.
After the gig was over, which didn’t last long anyway because it was a small container, she referred me to some message boards and threads for other folks who may be interested in what I can do for them. Poking around these boards, I was enthralled at the scope of knowledge and sophistication all revolving around disaster preparations.
My work was like a calling card, and after gaining more experience in constructions of many varieties closer to home, I started getting requests from places like Montreal Quebec Canada. I started turning some of these down because they are so far from home, but after a few folks came back to me and said that there were more people in the area who would commission work as well, I decided to make a larger trip of it and stay long enough to do a few projects.
Getting in a rhythm with these jobs, I realized that simply staying in a hotel would not cut it, especially when I started feeling sick of the small rooms and lack of amenities from my first couple of trips. In order to remedy this, I started booking a fabulous furnished suite in Montreal through Gesthab, and I could not be happier now!
I get to build some interesting things in Montreal Quebec Canada and stay in a very nice furnished suite in Montreal while I do it. I am lucky to have started this new venture, and lucky to have found Gesthab to support me while I do it.
